With the iPhone’s built in accelerometers, its capable of knowing the attitude of the device. Creative software developers have taken this ability and turned it into a method for controlling an RC model! Using the audio jack on the iPhone like a buddy cord connection, this setup still uses a conventional RC transmitter (or a custom enclosure for a transmitter module) to send control signals to the model. Using the iPhone as a gimbal, all you have to do is tilt the phone in the desired direction of control. Throttle and rudder are controlled with a sliding touch screen button on the screen. If you have a stable airplane, a radio with a buddy cord and iPhone, you could put this together yourself without too much trouble!
