Occasionally I see a video that just about makes me jump out of my chair, and this clip certainly did it! This group of engineers at the University of Pennsylvania have developed an autonomous control system for their simple quadrotor flying machine that gives it incredible precision and agility. A quadrotor helicopter is nothing more than 4 electric motors spinning airplane propellers; all of the stability comes from integrated electronics. While we are starting to see models like the Gaui x330 pop up on the market (click here), flying through tiny windows at odd angles and perching the vehicle on a wall are way out of its capabilities. Maybe someday we’ll be able to buy a model like this off the store shelf, but for now, the accomplishments in this video make it look like it came straight out of the future!
