Festo Air PenguinBiomemetics is man mimicking nature. Researchers often go back to nature to find answers to riddles from health to flight, but one company has taken the concept to the extreme, building models which mimic nature with an incredible degree of realism. Festo is known around the world in industrial circles for their pnematic and electrical automation technologies. As Festo states on their website “Flexibility, lightness in relation to displaced mass, and energy efficiency are acquiring increasing significance in automation. With highly diverse examples, nature demonstrates how maximum performance can be achieved with minimum energy consumption.”

Festo has numerous remarkable projects, including  swimming Mantas and Penguins, and flying lighter-than-air Jelly Fish, Penguins and Mantas. Festo has also developed some facinating technologies for lighter-than-air flight, including a super heated steam lifting system, hot air airships, and other firsts. Festo’s remarkable technology is making an impact at an industrial level already, maybe someday soon we’ll have floating JellyFish and flapping Mantas flying around at a trade show near you!
