Parkzone Ultra-Micro P-51 Mustang- A Sure Winner Even Before Release!

Perhaps its ironic that as technology matures, we are able to enjoy smaller, simpler models which make enjoying the hobby ever easier. I have been rather impressed with Parkzone’s line of micro RC airplanes. Weighing in around an ounce all up, these tiny molded foam models (the Vapor and Ember use Carobon Fiber and plastic film) fly incredibly well with fully proportional control and electric power. The first in the lineup were all limited to 3 channel control (no ailerons for roll control) and a proprietary transmitter, but things improved quickly. The Vapor was the first to be able to bind to a conventional Spektrum radio, and the release of the mCx helicopter and the micro Sukhoi SU-26, parkzone stepped it up to 4 channel control (ailerons, elevator, rudder, and throttle).
The iconic World War 2 P-51 has always been a hot topic to model, but has never been as practical for the average hobbyist or even, dare I say beginners, as the tiny iteration from Parkzone. Fully capable of straffing the local baseball field, front yards, and parking lots; Parkzone’s tiny sub 16 inch Ultra-Micro P-51 Mustang comes out of the box ready to fly with an all up weight of just over one ounce (35 grams). The little Mustang has full 4 channel control and is practically guaranteed to be a winner! Based on the specs, other models from the product lineup, and the video Horizon posted on their website, the micro P-51 is going to be light enough to be easily manageable, with a wide speed range and the ability to handle mild to moderate outdoor conditions. It looks like it is going to track well at speed and slow down well without getting twitchy, and provide pretty impressive aerobatic abilities (conventional aerobatics, not 3D).
The P-51 has always been a popular modeling subject for good reason, the Mustang was one of America’s premier fighter aircraft of WW2 and surely played a significant role in the outcome of the war. The new Ultra-Micro P-51 Mustang from Parkzone is slated to be released in late September, look for it to be a hot seller in Hobby Shops everywhere. With the ability to buy one ready to fly out of the box for $130, its going to be very popular this Christmas season.

I hope you’ll get a hold of one and let us know what you think. I’ve been quite intrigued by both this one and their larger, brushless Mustang BNF.
