Align T-Rex 450 Pro Super Combo- First Look

Posted on September 25, 2009 by aaronredbaron

dsc_0168-mediumAlign entered the RC heli market a short 5 years ago with the gray plastic version of their original T-Rex 450x. The original model left a lot to be desired, yet hinted at the thoroughbred hiding underneath. Since the release of the original 450x, Align has been working non-stop with their helicopter product line, and has established themselves as a force to reckon with in the RC Heli market. Align recently released the third version of the T-Rex 450 SE. Designed by Jason Krause with an all new simplified frame, a torque tube driven tail, and a refreshed rotor head design, this version incorporates the biggest changes in the design to date.

Opening The Box

Gone are the nifty aluminum boxes previous T-Rex 450 SE kits came packaged in. When you open the T-Rex 450 Pro box, you are greeted with a well organized plastic holder which prevents the components from shifting. The subassemblies (rotor head, main frame, and tail) are pre-built, and the bags of small parts are separated in a smaller cardboard box. The package I am reviewing here, the T-Rex 450 Pro Super Combo (KX015074),  also included a brushless motor and speed control, 3 digital servos for the swashplate and a gyro/digital tail servo combo. The suggested retail price on the combo is $575.99. Also available is a package with only the motor and speed control, the T-Rex 450 Pro Combo (KX015073), for $427.99 suggested retail.

Our kit was just about perfect. I say ‘just about’ because there was a crack in the canopy when I opened the box. Besides that, the kit appears to be flawless and will be a very quick build. Check back here soon for the next part of this review, Assembly.
