Tip of the day- Mini Titan Skid Stoppers For Your Radio

grip it and rip itAlthough some flyers are happy with the factory sticks on their radio, I have always experimented with differnent arrangments. I fly with a pincher grip, although its almost a half pincher, half thumb grip. For well over a year now, I have used the Mini Titan rubber skid stoppers on my radio’s control sticks. They have a tight fit, and just the right thickness and shape to provide a place to rest my fore finger, while my thumb finds a nice home partly on the end of the stick and partly on the rubber. Choosing between pincher and thumb styles has always been a personal preference with advantages to each. Thumb flyers benifit from quick response and a large range of motion, but often use shorter sticks, further hampering fine control around center. Pincher pilots benifit from smooth precise control around center, but don’t have the range of motion and have slower response.

I have found that running the skid stoppers for the Thunder Tiger Mini Titan close to the end of the stick provides the best of both worlds; I can get the smooth precise control around center, but my thumb is in a good position to do all the work for fast moves. Without realizing I was doing it at first, I noticed I actually lift my forefinger off the stick to get to the extremes quickly. I don’t think about moving my finger, but just by keeping my thumb and forefinger gripped to the skid stopper, my forefinger automatically rolls out of the way so I can get to the extremes easily. This tip may not work for everybody, but some of my buddies who fly thumbs like the skid stoppers as well because you can have it positioned so your fingers still grab the end of the stick, but the stopper provides an additional base for extra contact.
