6 Reasons You Should Buy The MSH Protos 500
Posted on September 28, 2008 by aaronredbaron
1. Low Price- The Protos cost $370 with SAB carbon fiber rotor blades and a powerful brushless motor. Parts Prices are very reasonable as well. A full frame set will cost you $26, two tail booms cost $17, the main belt is $7, etc.
2. High Quality- The Protos is made in Italy by people who know RC Helicopters. The Protos takes advantage of high quality carbon impregnated plastics with machined aluminum for key components to produce a helicopter that is strong, lightweight, and inexspensive.
4. High Performance- WIth its low weight, rigid frame, and smooth slop free controls, the Protos doesn’t disapoint in the performance department. Arguably the most capable 500 class helicopter; the Protos is fast, nimble, and precise. WIth its programmable paddles and several mixing options on the head to tailor control response, the Protos can be fine tuned from mild to WILD.
5. Light Weight- Up to 200 grams lighter than comprable 500 sized (425mm rotor blade) helicopters. With a lightweight 6s 2500mAh setup, the Protos can come in as little as 1520 grams. WIth a moderate 3200mAh to 4000mAh 5s battery, the Protos is capable of delivering performance similar to the heavier competition with long 7 minutes or more of flight time. The Protos can even take advantage of 7s A123 batteries due to its low weight and still offer great performance.
6. Innovative Design- A single belt runs the entire drivetrain of the Protos, and eliminates significant mass most helis have from the related shafts, gears and bearings. Wires can be routed inside the frame along the bottom of the receiver tray, and from the servo area to the receiver tray. All the wires arrive in the back of the frame where they can plug right into the receiver, keeping the wires all internal and very neat. The servo tray is adjustable to handle most of the “mini” servos used in 500 sized helis, and doubles as a bearing block for the main shaft.
A Class leading Design
The Protos is different in both look and function, and is exciting to fly. Although not intended for novice flyers, building the Protos is a joy. Parts go together with the kind of fit and feel that serve to remind the modeler that this machine comes from people in the know. Many people assosiate Italian products with prestige due to some of the high performance machinery that has come from that country, and the Protos doesn’t break the curve. If there was a “supercar” class of RC Helicopters, the Protos would be leading the pack.
