Nice day at a quiet schoolyard

relaxing summer day at the deserted schoolyard

On Sunday July 6, 2008, I went flying with my friends Scott from FlexPro, Sean Whitney, Mark Shugert, Spencer Scott and Doug Loney. Mark just brought his camera along with no models, he takes pictures for and manages the website for the Barsnstormers R/C club.

Sean really got a workout this flight

Sean took some time with Scott’s 450 to buddy box Spencer, and Spencer really gave Sean a workout taking the opportunity to try rolls and flips. Sean was quick on the sticks and averted any problems without any sweat. Doug brought his Trex 450 Slow Stick, and Scott brought the FlexPro Trex 500 and his 450.

The 500 is the testbed for the new Flexpro 500 gear, and Sean gets to do most of the abuse to test the gear. Sean won’t stuff the bird intentionally, but the whole point of having the 500 is for testing the new landing gear, so FlexPro owners Scott McCarty and Mark Miller encourage Sean to fly the model hard and put the gear to the test. Sean has only been flying for a few years, but he has incredible skill.

Sean seems to be one of those lucky few who just picked it up really easily and progressed very rapidly. I would rank Sean as an expert flyer, and although he may not be one of the top pilots in the world, he is among the growing group of pilots with world class 3D skills. It never ceases to impress me how great it is to see other people get excited about the hobby, get into it, and become skilled. It is one of the reasons I enjoy the hobby so much, because I can share it with my friends, and I make more friends all the time through the hobby. I have a network of friends from the hobby all over the western hemisphere, from Florida, to Seattle, and down to Honduras.
